Biography The ‘great confident’ and correspondent of Hearne, the Oxford antiquary, Gwyn devoted much of his time to antiquarian matters, including the collection of material for a history of Devonshire.1 He succeeded his father as a Tory at Christchurch in 1724, and again at Wells in 1727, but was unseated on petition two years later. He died c. June 1736.2
