An obituary, published at the time of Kare's death, follows:

Kare Ovringmo: In memoriam

Sorrow descended over Straumen when it became known that Kare Overingmo had passed on.

He was suddenly and brutally torn away in what should have been the middle of his life, leaving family and friends without words that can describe the depth of their sorrow.

Kare worked hard throughout life on his many varied interests. Perhaps he worked too hard and taxed his health more than was good for him. He could do everything well, working effectively with both his hands and with his mind. He could have gone far, but commitment to home and family kept him in Straumbygda. It was here that he wanted to live and here that he wanted to die. But his death came much too early.

Kare Ovringmo had broad interests that extended beyond caring for his family. He had an open mind that searched for positive aspects of every experience, while disregarding negative aspects that may have irritated others. He lived with the conviction that “love conquers all” and opened his heart not only to his family and friends, but also to nature and his homeland.

He was never happier than when in his beloved mountains, where, despite his gregarious nature, his spirit was rejuvenated by the peaceful solitude that he found there.

Kare was a community leader. As a boy he was much involved in the village youth organization and as an adult he was a member of the city council and the school board.

Above all, Kare was likable, easy going and a good friend. We will remember his fitting remarks, always made without malice, and his ability to tell us jokes with much humor. He had no enemies and no one could be angry with him. His goodness and pleasant ways charmed everyone. It was said: “The ones that knew him loved him and the ones that did not love him did not know him”.

He has left a great emptiness and is sorely missed at home, in the community and among his friends. The many that will long remember him are grateful for his friendship.
