SHAWMUT – Eldon E. Bartley, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday evening June 28, 2014 at his home in Shawmut surrounded by family and friends.

He was born January 5, 1922 in Clinton, the son of Lewis A. and Mollie A. (Burtt) Bartley.

He married Emerline (Gurney) Bartley on April 24, 1948 and they were happily married for 66 years. They spent their life together at the home they had built in Shawmut Village.

In 1955 he and Emerline built a camp on Moose Head Lake where they shared many good times with family and friends. Eldon loved being up at Moosehead.

Eldon was a pilot. He owned two planes and loved to fly with Emerline by his side. He would fly to New York to pick up his friends to take them to camp. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

Eldon was a U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after being wounded, and received many medals for his brave service to his country. He was a member of Siloam Masonic Lodge #92 AF and AM of Fairfield. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Body as well as a member of Anah Temple of Bangor. Eldon Worked at Keyes Fiber for 43 years as a grinder technician and First Hand.

Eldon leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Emerline (Gurney) of Shawmut. He is also survived by his sisters in law; Christine Beaulieu, Ruby Harding, Earline McGoff and husband Stanley, brother in law Omar Gurney, several very special nieces and nephews, and many friends. Eldon was a warm wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all.

Eldon was predeceased by his parents, his four brothers; Lewie, Eddie, Floyd, and Don Bartley, as well as by his seven sisters; Myrtle Johnson, Cecile Whittaker, Ina Bryant, Phyllis Hann, Glennis Dixon, Faye Tracy, and Ina Releader.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday July 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Shawmut Baptist Church in Shawmut, followed by interment at the Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield with Masonic and Military participation. There will be a luncheon held at the Fairfield VFW immediately following interment.
