EDMUND BUTLER, esq. This gentleman m. Catherine, daughter of Sir Pierce Poer, of the county of Waterford, by whom he had two sons, the elder of whom, THOMAS BUTLER. esq. was elevated to the peerage of Ireland, 10th November, 1543, by the title of Baron of Caher. His lordship m. Eleanor, fifth daughter of Pierce, Earl of Ormonde, and was succeeded by his only surviving son, Edmund, second baron, who d. without issue, when the barony expired, and his two half sisters became his heirs. The dignity was, however, revived 6th May, 1563, by a new patent, granted to his lordship's first cousin, SIR THEOBALD BUTLER, knt. who became thus third Baron Caher.

    Eleanor Butler was the daughter of Piers Butler, 8th Earl of Ormonde and Lady Margaret FitzGerald.1 She married Thomas Butler, 1st Baron Caher, son of Edmund Butler and Catherine Power.1 She married Thomas Butler, 1st Baron Caher, son of Edmund Butler and Catherine Power, on 10 November 1543.2 She died after 1550.3
    As a result of her marriage, Eleanor Butler was styled as Baroness Caher on 10 November 1543.

    Ellen FitzGerald is the daughter of Maurice FitzThomas FitzGerald and Joan FitzGibbon.1 She married Thomas Butler, 1st Baron Caher, son of Edmund Butler and Catherine Power, after 1550.1
    As a result of her marriage, Ellen FitzGerald was styled as Baroness Caher after 1550. From after 1550, her married name became Butler.1
