About Eleanor Ellen Driggers

Jonas Driggers, a forefather of the Driggers connection of Wiregrass Georgia and North Florida, was born in North Carolina about 1755, son of William Driggers, R. S. Just before the Revolutionary War the family moved from Cumberland Co. N. C. to Cheraw District S. C. After the war Jonas moved to Effingham County, Georgia, his parents moving there also, but others of the family remaining in South Carolina. In 1796 they were detached from Effingham and cut into Bulloch County when it was created partly out of Effingham and Screven counties. Jonas Driggers wife was Elenor (or Ellen); maiden name unknown. They had the following known children: 1. John, B. abt. 1774 Cheraw District S. C., married Nancy ?, moved to Macintosh, Co. Georgia. 2. Matthew, B. abt. 1775 Cheraw district S. C., married Mary Crawford. 3. William, B. 1776 Cheraw District S. C. Married Mrs. Millie Lastinger Parker on November 3, 1806. Millie was formerly married to William Parker. The family moved moved to Madison County, Florida. 4. Jonas Jr., B. 1777 Cheraw District S. C., married Clemantine ? 5. Dennis, B. 1778 Cheraw District S. C.. Married Elizabeth Nevill, March 9, 1799. She was the daughter of John Nevill. They moved to Madison Co. Florida 6. Henry, B. abt. 1780 Cheraw District S. C. 7. Elizabeth, B. abt. 1781 Cheraw District S. C. 8. Simeon, B. 1785 GA. Married Mary ? 9. Catherine B. 1792 GA. Married Robert Woods on March 21, 1814

Mr. Driggers and his father, William Driggers, served in the South Carolina Militia in the Revolutionary War under General Marion. He died in Bulloch County, Georgia in 1822, His place of burial is unknown. His widow, Elenor, was appointed administratrix of his estate. Bulloch county deed records show a gift instrument conveying cattle and other personality from Mrs Ellen Driggers to her grandchildren, Johnson Woods, William Woods, Dennis Woods Elenor Woods and Elizabeth Woods, all of Bulloch county, dated March 28, 1826.
