Elhanan Bicknell

He was named after the Reverend Elhanan Winchester, an American Preacher and Author of "Universal Restoration" which was published at the time of Elhanan's birth.

THE LATE ELHANAN BICKNELL- IN MEMORIAM

"....... Elhanan Bicknell's recent death makes a serious and long to be regretted void in the Unitarian Church. He was a man of genial temper, of high and noble principles, one that sought and loved the truth with his whole soul, and who thought no sacrifices too great in its behalf. His tastes were highly cultivated and always pure. His religious opinions were clear and decided and affected the whole tenor of his thoughts and life. His zeal never flagged and never degenerated into bigotry....he was one of that numerous class in England who by their industry and integrity win the way to large wealth. His Father having given him a name untainted by reproach, set him an example worthy of imitation, and by his conduct as well as his precepts made him understand the value of religion and scripture truth."
