Eli Seale

Eli Seale came to Texas with his three brothers to fight for Texas Independence. They were the sons of Thomas Seale and his first wife, Racheal Baxter Seale. Eli remained and brought his family. He was married to Sussanah (Sara) Davis and had 10 children. He served under Capt. Burnett and Capt. Lynch, was a captain in the Texas Rangers in 1836, served as a minute man in 1841. Major Seale was granted a league of land for his services. Records show that he owned large tracts of land in Brazos County. He was born in North Carolina April 11, 1793, and died May 2, 1857. He and his wife are buried in Seale Family Cemetery No. 1 on the banks of the Navasota River, Brazos County.

Eli Seale came to Texas in January 1835, as a Robertson Colonist, from Green County, AL.

Eli is listed in Malcolm McLean's IX th book of Robertson's Colony In Texas on Mrs. Sullivan's list under William Pillow, who must have recruited Eli Seals, along with James A. Head, who married Eli's half-sister. James A. Head is listed as judge in Ericson's book, Judges of The Republic of Texas. James A. Head was the Representative to the Texas congress who presented the petition to change the name of the county from Navasota to Brazos in 1841. Sam Houston signed this and the county became Brazos, after a year as Navasota County.

Malcolm McLean, in the IX th book, shows Eli Seale's league surrounding the City of Thornton in Limestone county (Page 552).

Eli Seale was a Minuteman: the State Library Archives show this, and Austin has a copy of his 77 days as a Texas Ranger, "captain after the death of Captain Hillhouse." There are many Bounty Grants on file in the Archives, showing that Eli chose Cedar Creek because of the plentiful water.

Listed on Mrs. Sullivan's two lists: (One of William Pillow and one signed by William Steele).

Eli Seale: Susannah, wife. We got Davis from her tombstone in Cedar Creek Cemetery; Christopher Columbus, son. He had a grant in Robertson County; Joseph Arnold, son; Thomas, son, died in Chicago as a Prisoner of War; John D. (Davis ?), son; August F., son; Bradford T., son.
