Elie Whitaker

Elie Cochran was the wife of John Thomas Whitaker. She was the mother of 7 children. Exacts on factual information are hard to come by. In 1916 she remarried to a man named George William Whitfield Rigsbee. Her death certificate states her remains were taken to Durham, North Carolina. First record I have been able to find of her is a 1870 census. Birth listed about 1867. She is listed as living with mother Eliza...siblings Thomas, Sallie, Spier, Mollie, and Samuel. 1880 cencus show birth as 1865. Living with mother Mary and siblings Spier, Mollie, Nannie, and Samuel. Marriage record is in North Carolina 1882. She is listed as birth being about 1864. There seems to be confusion on who her father was. Death Certificate states it is Adam Cochran and mother is Mary Britt. Being that mother is listed as Eliza on first census I researched and found a marriage record for Eliza Britt and Eli Cochran. I have record of one cencus for Eli and Mary Eliza from 1860. The children are listed a Thomas and Sallie. That being said, I would say that her father is Eli and not Adam. Adam was her grandfather and she also had a uncle Adam.
