About Eliezer Lurvey

Eliezer Lurvey was active in the affairs of the Fifth Parish at Sandy Bay. His name appears in the first list of tax payers of the newly chartered parish in 1754. He appears in the records on 31 July 1763 when he is named as moderator for that meeting. A this meeting he was also named as an assessor. At the meeting of 31 March, 1766 he was chosen as sexton of the church. He also agreed to sell his pew back to the church for the use of the choir. On 27 April 1767 he is named as a member of a Parish committee to investigate whether it would be possible to merge with the 'squam parish (third). On 15 August 1767, he was selected to begin searching for a new minister. From 1767 to 1777, he was regularly selected moderator of the parish meetings.
