About Eliseo Ciucci
Accident No. 20. - June 29th. An accident occurred at the Arcadian Mine which resulted in the death of Eliseo Ciucci.
An inquest was held by Justice Fisher.
Lorenzo Grossy testified: “I am a partner of the deceased. We were employed in landing the bucket at the 5th level, No. 3 shaft. Three long planks were hoisted up from the bottom of the shaft to the 4th level. They told the boy at the engine to lower the planks slowly, which order was obeyed. Then I saw Ciucci slip and fall into the shaft head first."
William Strongman was before the jury and stated that he saw the deceased just before he, Cincei, went underground, and that he was so intoxicated that he could not walk straight. I recognized him to be the same man when I saw the body this morning, that I saw last night. I did not speak to him when he passed me last night, but said to a man passing, "That is a pretty condition for a man to be in, going into the mine." I should say from his appearance, he was in no fit condition to go into the mine."
Verdict of jury: "We the jury do say that the said Eliseo Ciucci came to his death on the 29th day of June, 1899, by falling in No. 3 shaft, 5th level, Arcadian Mine, while under the influence of liquor."
