From Antwerp History Buff;
ELISHA SCOFIELD In the History of Jefferson County, NY, Durant and Peirce identify a location called Ingerson's Corners near Evans Mills. It was a neighborhood two miles southeast of Evans Mills. On page 427 of their book they stated:
"It is so called from Mr. Isaac Ingerson, the first settler at this point. Near him settled Mr. Elisha Schofield."
While the spelling of Scofield is not identical, there is no doubt that they were referring to Elisha Scofield, and Abigail, his wife, both of whom were instrumental in the founding of the Congregational Church Society at LeRay. "On 13 January 1814, a meeting was held at the house of Elisha Scofield, at Ingerson's Corners for the purpose of organizing said society." Based on Ingerson family research, Isaac Ingerson was a brother to Abigail, wife of Elisha Scofield.
