24 Jun 1793, Mercershall, [London]: Gilbert Innes to Marion Innes, his sister. Thanks for her kindness to his illegitimate children; the ministry has agreed to increase the bank's capital and to give a charter; it was impossible to settle this earlier as Mr [Henry] Dundas was inimical to the plan till he found that every Scotsman almost who came near him thought there was no other way of supporting the revenue of Scotland or getting repayment of the money lent from the Board 'where I now sit alone'; health of an unnamed female, only identified as recipient's namesake [probably Marion Burnett]; adds ungallantly 'as to her looks and spirits the first cannot be much worse & the last never were good ... As to the rest of the brats order them as you chuse and I pray you give a name to the young one to save me speaking about it when I return. I am sorry you think so lightly of the consul's nuptials [John Hunter] To be sure his wife is rather lately departed but this new connection is formed if not by the advice at least by the consent of Dr Congaltons family'.
