OTTUMWA - Elizabeth E. "Betty" Pohlson, 89, of 927 E. Pennsylvania died 5:52 p.m. July 7, 2004, in Hospice House. She was born Oct. 16, 1914 in White Lake, S. D. to Charles Lincoln and Caroline Emily Alkire Speelman. She married Carl J. Pohlson Sept. 12, 1941. He preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1977. A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mitchell, S. D. She had worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa and the Ottumwa Hospital. She was a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross. Survivors include daughter, Carol (Ron) Bright of Lucas, Texas; son, Vic (Jane) Pohlson of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Karen (Paul) Smith, Dan Bright and Chris Pohlson; and two great-grandchildren Zachary Smith and Hannah Smith. She was preceded in death by two, sisters Margaret Valentine and Merle Herbst; and three brothers, Robert, Howard and Glen Speelman. Her body has been cremated. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Lon Lewis officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ottumwa Manor Activity Fund or Hospice House. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
