• Elizabeth de Brompton was born on 16 December 1294 at of Brompton, Shropshire, England.1 She married Sir Edmund de Cornwall, son of Sir Richard Cornwall, Steward of Knaresborough and Joan FitzAlan, before 7 December 1309 at of Brompton & Kinlet, Shropshire, England; They had 3 sons (Sir Edmund; Sir Brian; & Peter).1 Elizabeth de Brompton died after 18 May 1355 at of Thonock, Lincolnshire, England.1

• RICHARD de Cornwall, illegitimate son of RICHARD Earl of Cornwall & his mistress Jeanne de Valletort (-after 1280). The primary source which confirms his parentage has not yet been identified. He was granted the manor of Thunnock, Lincolnshire in 1280 by his half-brother Edmund Earl of Cornwall.

• II.—Inquisition at Clebury, co. Salop, on Wednesday next after the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, 28 Edward III. It is not to the damage or prejudice of the King or of others, if the King grants to Elizabeth, who was the wife of Edmund de Cornubia, that she may be able to enfeoff her Manors of Overgorther and Worthyn, with appurtenances and 1,000 acres of wood with appurtenances in Aberleye, to Henry de Mortimer,¹ senior, and Reginald del² Hay. To hold to them and their heirs of the King and his heirs, by the services due and accustomed for ever, so that Henry and Reginald having full and peaceable seisin thereof, shall be able to give and grant the same premises to the

• 1354. On a flat monument in the chancel a lady in 14th century dress with the following inscription : — "ici gist Dame Elizabeth feme' a Mons' Edmond de Cornwalflle, qui mourit, 1354" (a widow), the arms of Brampton, of Kinlet, on one side and Cornwall impaling Brampton on the other. This represents Elizabeth, the daughter and coheir of Brian de Brampton, of Kinlet, who married Edmond the elder brother of Geoffry de Cornwall, of Burford. Her husband predeceased her by a few months, which may account for her burial at Burford instead of Kinlet.

• .... We may pass them over, and proceed at once to the children of Richard by Joan, daughter of John, Lord St. Owen.
• These were, first, Sir Edmund, of Kinlet, which manor he held jure uxoris, Elizabeth, daughter and coheiress of Sir Bryan de Brampton, of Brampton Bryan. He held also, under Edward, Prince of Wales, the manor of Asthall, Oxon, and of Aston, Hereford, under Roger de Mortimer, with Worthen and other manors in Salop. He died in 1355, leaving issue: (1) Sir Edmund, of Kentwell, Suffolk, whose wife, Isabella, was apparently a daughter or niece of Strabolgie, Earl of Athol, .... As this pair left no surviving issue, the estates of Worthen, Baughallor, etc., went to his brother Bryan, who was lving in 1354. He married Maude, daughter of Lord Strange of Blakemere, and by her had Sir John of Kinlet, who, by Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Wastneys, of Tixall, left at his decease, in 1415, three coheiresses—viz., .... etc.
• The younger brother of Sir Edmund and of Bryan Cornewall was Peter, who, marrying a daughter of Roger Hanley, died in 1387, seised of the manor of Aston, with lands in Berrington. His son Lewis predeceased him, leaving Edmund, born in 1385 .... etc. _________________
• Urse's under-tenant in 1086 or shortly after was Robert Parler, (fn. 10) the ancestor of Isnard or Inard Parler, a tenant under the Beauchamps in the reign of Stephen. (fn. 11) It is not known that Isnard held Flyford Flavell, but it is probable that he did so, as half a knight's fee at Flyford Flavell afterwards became annexed to his principal manor, Hampton Lovett. (fn. 12) This estate passed with Hampton Lovett to Brian de Brompton, who gave both to Henry Lovett and his wife Joan to hold in tail with reversion to the heirs of the donor. (fn. 13) The issue of Henry Lovett and Joan failed on the death of their grandson John without issue, and the half-fee reverted with Hampton Lovett to Elizabeth wife of Edmund Cornwall and her sister Margaret, as great-granddaughters and heirs of Brian de Brompton. (fn. 14) This half-fee fell to the share of Elizabeth Cornwall, being held of her manor of Overhall in Hampton Lovett, (fn. 15) and she, with her husband, Sir Edmund, in 1353–4 gave it to their son Peter. (fn. 16) At this date and in 1366 the undertenants of the manor were Simon de Oldbury and Thomas de Quenton. (fn. 17) It was probably included in land at Flyford sold with the manor of Overhall in 1544 by George Cornwall to John Pakington, (fn. 18) but its further descent has not been traced.

Neither the Braose nor the Mortimer records we have seen mention that that Matilda (Maud) was married before she married Roger Mortimer and the dates make that seem unlikely. The connection we make is to a Maud of 2 generations earlier and is supported by a web site on the Braose family.
