  • Notes: At the west end of the south aisle of the nave of St Giles church Bredon, is a handsome alabaster and black marble monument of great size to Giles Reed and Catherine (Greville) his wife, both of whom died in 1611. It has lifesized recumbent effigies on a panelled sarcophagus. The arched canopy is carried on Corinthian columns, and bears in the spandrels the arms of Reed quartering Or three crossbows proper, and the shield of Greville, quartered with Arderne, Ufford and Beauchamp of Powick.   • A son, Sir William Brent, Lord of Stoke and Admington, married Elizabeth ___, and died 1595. Their son, Sir Robert, married, 1572, Mary, the daughter of John and Katharine (Hennage) Huggeford, and died 1587. The will of Mary Brent, widow,11 bequeathed silver to her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Elinor, Anne, Jane, Richard, Gyles, William, Edward, and George Brent.

  • The elder son, Sir Richard, married, 1594, Elizabeth, the daughter of Giles Reed, Esq., Lord of Tusburie and Witten, and Katherine Greville, his wife. Sir Richard died 1652, and was buried at Ilmington. He had thirteen children, a number of whom were conspicuously connnect with the early history of Maryland and Virginia, viz.: Foulke, Giles, Mary, and Margaret.
  • Their sixth child, George, was granted administration on his father's estate, May 21, 1652. He is mentioned in his grandmother's will and in a conveyance of 1663, as of "Defford." he married Marianna, the daughter of Sir John Peyton, of Doddington; she was twice married after George Brent's death, and died after 1663. Their son GEORGE, was the colonist, who went to Virginia. _______________________

  • The Brents of Stoke have had a place of burial here since the coming of their ancestor out of Somersetshire about the year 1487 by the concealed name of John Buston, who married Margery, daughter of George Colchester, then of Stoke and Admington, Esq., about the year 1498 and died 1531.
  • Their son William Brent Lord of Stoke and Admington dyed 1595 with Elizabeth his wife here buried. Their son Richard Brent married Mary daughter of John Huggeford and Katherine Hennage his wife, 1572 and died 1587. Here buried. Their son Richard Brent married Elizabeth daughter of Giles Reed Esquire & Katherine Grevill his wife Anno 1594 and dyed 1652. He was here buried but his wife at Bredon with her father. Their son Richard Brent married Margaret daughter of Sir John Peshall Baronet and Anne Sheldon his wife Ano 1622. Four of whose children (viz) Frances, Mary, Elizabeth, and Giles lye here buried Anno 1657. The sd. Margaret Brent died June 20th, 1666. Here buried. _______________

Ben M. Angel comments:

Apparently the title of Elizabeth's father is Lord of Tusburie and Witten. These appear to be German cities, which is probably an indication of participation in the ongoing 30 Years War that was being fought from 1618-1648 between Protestants in the north and Catholics in the south.

As such, I couldn't find a Tusburie in England, but I did find an alternate source that suggested Elizabeth was born in Admington or Lark Stoke (both in Shipston-on-Stour district).
