Elizabeth Dawson

Elizabeth Dawson had a very unconventional life for the times.

She married Robert Finlayson in Australind on the 28th March 1867

Elizabeth was a housekeeper for James Moore b 1852 and he married Marie Harris but could not have any children so Elizabeth agreed to be a surrogate. 

Interesting that the two sons of James and Elizabeth were born four years apart.

Family stories have it that there was a 'one for you, one for me' surrogacy agreement between James and Elizabeth,

Another theory is that Walter was actually Finlaysons Son from another marriage and Elizabeth adopted him after their marriage this I have proven to be incorrect as I have copies of Walters Birth Certificate which clearly states his mother as Elizabeth and his father as James

Elizabeth and James had two children one became Sir Newton Moore one became Walter Finlayson.

I have information that Walter James married Mary Payne and they had at least two children Iris Elizabeth who died at 3 days old and Unamed Male who died at 1 day.
