About Elizabeth (Eliza) M. Morris
Mrs. Morris, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, was born in Marcy [Mercer] County, Illinois, May 15, 1835. In 1850 she crossed the plains by ox team with her family to Oregon, the father locating in the Willamette valley, near what is now the city of Albany. There were at that time but a few log cabins in the valley, and the settler who was fortunate enough to be a married man, was allowed to homestead a section of rich valley soil. In 1852 she was married to E.A. Johnson. To this union there were five children born. Two daughters died in Oregon, James W. died at this place in 1907, while Walt, of Stevens county, and Frank of this city, survive the mother. Her first husband died in 1869, and in 1870 she was united in marriage to P.V. Morris, and to this second union two children were born, Mrs. Georgia Normoyle, who died several years ago and Mrs. F.H. Ankcorn of this city.
The family moved to the Palouse country from Oregon in 1882, locating first on Cedar creek, where they lived for some time, and later moving to Palouse, where Mr. Morris operated a transfer business.
As a consistent Christian worker Mrs. Morris had a record excelled by few. She became a member of the Christian church in 1862, and for 52 years she had been an active church worker. With an ever sunny disposition, which remained the same in spite of sickness and the troubles of life, she was held in highest esteem by all who knew her.
