The Gene R Fanton's of Welsville,NY updated August 11, 2001
"My Uncle Carl Fanton wrote a book of The fanton Family History & was published in 1935......... ...I feel that our Fanton name is rare, as far as surnames go.
Records show that there were Fantons in France early in the 17th century, & that they were HUGUENOTS, hense it is probable that some of them settled to England during the Huguenot emigrations, later coming to America.
Jennie fanaton married Nicolas Perree De La Villestreux, who was born about 1600, and was captain of a French was ship "King Louis XIV" . His brother Pierre was the King's secretary.
Rachel Fanton and ELIZABETH, sisters, left the Isle of Re, France in 1685 and emigrated to Chaleston, South Carolina. Rachel married Isacc Soline, France. Elizabeth was the wife fo DANIEL GARNIER, a merchant, son of Daniel and Marie (Chevallier) Garnier.
The male ancestors in this book, from whom all Fantons in America have descended, were undoubttedly from England. Simon and Claark Fanaton, brothers, were born in London; however, in the case of Jonaton of Fairfield & William of Stratford there is nothing but tradition and costoms to hear out this statement."
