About Elizabeth Jane Hatch

Daughter of John and Harriet Hales Ellis. Wife of Stearns Hatch. Wife of President of Deseret Livestock Company Called by Death -- Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Ellis Hatch, wife of Stearns Hatch, president of the Deseret Live Stock company and former Bishop of South Bountiful died at her home in Woods Cross, Wednesday, after more than a year's illness. Mrs. Hatch was born at Bountiful, January 3, 1859, the daughter of John and Harriet Hales Ellis. On October 9, 1876, she married Sterns Hatch, who survives her. She was the mother of ten children, nine of whom are living.

They are Ira Sterns Hatch, Garfield, Mrs. Harriet E. Nelson, Clearfield, John I. Hatch, Woods Cross; Mrs. Leone Jane Wilcox, Farmington; Mrs. Laura L. Eskelson, Kamas, Wilford W. Hatch, Woods Cross, Mrs. Irene H. Reed, Clearfield; Mrs. Lillian G. Howard, Woods Cross, and Mrs. Sarah H. Smith, Salt Lake City. She is also survived by four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Hannah Isabelle Henrie, Panguitch; Mrs. Laura V. Hatch, Salt Lake City, Charles W. Ellis of Woods Cross, and John H. Ellis of Plain City, and 39 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Hatch was a faithful Latter-day Saint. She assisted her beloved husband in his active public life, who has served in many capacities for a number of years, as bishop of the South Bountiful ward, from which position he was made counselor to President James H. Robinson of the South Davis stake. Besides he has and does hold many positions of trust and honor in the business world in all these, Mrs. Hatch was a real help mate. Mrs. Hatch has a host of friends and relatives and was honored and loved by all who knew her.

The funeral services will be held in the South Bountiful chapel, Sunday, March at 30th, at 1 p. m., under the direction of Bishop E. T. Hatch. Interment will take place in the Bountiful cemetery.

Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Hatch -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Ellis Hatch were held in the South Bountiful ward chapel, Sunday, March 30, 1930, at 1 p. m. with Bishop Ezra T. Hatch officiating.

Invocation was offered by President Richard Stringham of South Davis Stake. A mixed quartet sang three numbers during the services, "Providence Is Over All", "O My Father" and "Tho Deepening Trials." Irantha Mills, Leila Lee and Ida Hatch sang a trio, "O Dry Those Tears" A vocal solo, "Perfect Day" was offered by George Wood, who also assisted his brother, John Wood, in a duet.

Elder George Page, President James H. Robinson and President Edward B. Clark of South Davis stake and Elder Heber C. Iverson of Salt Lake eulogized the deceased and spoke words of comfort to the bereaved. Benediction was by James Atkinson. Burial was in the Bountiful cemetery where former Bishop S. C. Howard dedicated the grave. The beautiful floral tributes, the large cortege and the large crowd evidenced the esteem in which she was held in the community.
