About Elizabeth Johnston

Elizabeth was the wife of Edward Johnston of New Kent, Virginia. Her parents are widely disputed, as is her date of birth. Her name is recorded simply as "Elizabeth" on the baptismal records of her first four children. Many believe that her birth name was Walker. Her parents are variously given as Samuel Walker and Ann Keith, as Alexander Walker of Old Machar, as Alexander and Frances Walker of James City County, Virginia and as William Johnson and Barbara Forbes.
Elizabeth did marry Edward Johnson or Johnston c.1676. Edward's parentage is equally shaky. While most sources place him in the family of Dr. Arthur Johnston, there is only circumstantial proof that the son of Dr. Johnston named Edward was Edward Johnston of New Kent. DNA studies are underway but descendants have not been found.
