Elizabeth Langton

Elizabeth Savage, daughter of Sir John Savage of Rocksavage (died October, 1597), Clifton, County Cheshire, England with his first wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Thomas Maniers (Manners), Earl of Rutland.

Elizabeth Savage married Sir Thomas Langton, Baron of Newton, as his second wife. Elizabeth had no children with Thomas Langton, who died rather young following serious injury during a fight over some stolen cattle.

She may have remarried after her husband's death, but I have yet to see any record of it. Her rumored marriage to "William Tingley" is unfounded, to the best of my knowledge. And while "England Marriages, 1538 - 1973" is given as a source for proof of this second marriage -- checking does not find that to be true.

There is an alleged record of a 1590 Yorkshire marriage between William Tingley and "Elizabeth Savaige" -- but following the link yields nothing of the sort. Much of the manuscript is illegible, but I don't even find the date "February 10, 1590" anywhere among the marriage records. And in fact that very page seems to be wholly missing, perhaps lost or misplaced in the files.

So, it really is not valid proof of a marriage between our Elizabeth (Savage) Langton and William Tingley.
