About Elizabeth Quick
1 There is NO evidence he was married to Elizabeth Quick (Squire). The given name of his first wife was Elizabeth, but her surname is unknown. Elizabeth was the mother of his children NOT his second wife, the widow Mary (Squire) Baldwin. He married Mary in 1808 when she was beyond child-bearing age. They had no children.
2 As to the composition of his family it is known from his 1820 will. He names the following 9 children in their birth order: Cornelius (1779), John (1781), Joseph (1782), David (1784), Alexander (1795), Elijah (1796), Sarah (after 1784), Elizabeth (after 1785), and Mary (after 1786). He groups them into boys and girls so there is reason to suspect the girls were born intermixed with the boys though estimates, are consistent with the information the boys give in their Upper Canada Land petitions. He does not name a 10th child evidently lost to the Indians. This order and the birthdates run counter to family stories submitted to the Commemorative Biographical Record of Essex County (CBRE) in 1905. The stories in the CBRE show a lamentable bias towards the son of John Quick from which the writer is descended. For this and other reasons the historical information is simply not credible.
3 John Quick did NOT have children Canzada, Moses, Isaac, Thomas or Arthur.
The book, “Commemorative Biographical Record of Essex County”, displayed on this profile should NOT be read as a primary source, and certainly not as a source of historical information.
