Died in Bolivar County Mississippi, August 30 1871, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Donelson, widow of Hon A.J. Donelson, lately deceased. Funeral at Second Presbyterian Church, this Thursday afternoon, February 1st at 2 1/2 o'clock, by Rev. W.E. Boggs and Rev. A.L. Kerr. The remains will be reinterred at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends and acquaintance are invited. Carriages will be provided at the church and at Holst's.

Death of Mrs. Andrew J. Donelson
From a dispatch received here yesterday morning we learn that Mrs. Elizabeth A. Donelson, wife of the late Major Andrew J. Donelson, had died on her plantation in Bolivar County, Mississippi, on the 30th instant, after an illness of four days. But a few weeks ago she was called on to mourn the death of an affectionate husband, which had such a depressing effect upon her that when attacked by disease, her health, which had hitherto been good, succumbed, and she was laid by the side of him whose strong arm had supported her through many trials. She was the eldest daughter of James C. Martin, of this county, and was born in 1816. In 1834 she was married to Lewis Randolph, of Virginia, a grandson of Thomas Jefferson, who died in about two years after. At the time of his death he was Secretary of the then Territory of Arkansas. It was there that the true energy of her character displayed itself, for the surprising ability she managed her husband's estate, securing to herself and her infant son a support. After about four years of widowhood she became the wife of Andrew J. Donelson. She accompanied him in his travels, going with him to Berlin, when he was Minister to that place, filling the place of Minister's lady with admirable grace and aptitude, and indeed in every position into which she was thrown the same calm self-possession made itself manifest.

At the beginning of the late struggle, in which in many instances, brother was against brother, her affectionate heart was torn to foresee, as she did, the death of so many braves, and she had cause for much apprehension, for she saw two noble sons buckle on their armor and start for the field of carnage, from which her fears were too fully realized. They never returned.
