SPOUSE
- 1) ELIZABETH STONER
- 2) BARBARA BARBY LAURIMAN
Claims her maiden name was Stoner, have been soundly disputed by Stoner/Stiener researchers. This claim was made in "Two Centuries of Brothersvalley; Church of the Brethren, 1672-1762" by H. Austin Cooper, who was a church Historian, not a genealogist. Rootsweb.com and Family.org just kept repeating his claim.
The "Mennonite Records," touted by Ancestry.com are not Mennonite records, but simply index cards of various references, and in this case the a fore mentioned reference.
I'm open to any contemporary evidence that might shed light on what her maiden name was, a will, estate settlement, deed, etc. In other words basic Genealogical evidence.
Someone believes our Elizabeth (Stoner) Rhoads is a maiden name Steiner, it's Stoner. I just realized my Granddaughter has had a DNA test and so did my 1st cousin my Mom's Nephew. He had a DNA test run a few years back confirming DNA results for Germanna.
I believe her maiden name was Armstrong.
In the will estate of Soloman Armstrong 1782 (from Maryland died in Tyrrell County), he leaves his daughter, Elizabeth Rhoads estate. Henry appears in the 1790 Census of Tyrrell County, NC next to Elizabeth's brother, Andrew's family and a few doors down from her mother, wife of Edward Hassell, Sr. A few years later a few Tyrrell County families consisting of John Armstrong and wife Mary Swain Armstrong and others left to travel West living in Kentucky then John Armstrong to Indiana. John Armstrong was a Patriotic in the American Revolution War, also. John Armstrong and Henry Rhoads are both Kentucky residents.
