Elizabeth Yoder Smeltzer was born in Holmes county, Ohio, Feb 27 1830, and died at her home north of Wakarusa, Ind, October 21, 1914, aged 84 years, 8 months and 24 days.
She grew to maturity at the place of her birth and about 1840 came to Indiana. November 6, 1851 she was married to Henry Smeltzer (who preceded her to the spirit world, November 2, 1895) and moved on the farm where she always resided until the time of her death. To this union were born twelve children, 5 girls and 7 boys, 3 having died when quite young.
In the year 1852, she with her husband united with the Mennonite church, where she remained a consecrated christian all her life.
Those left to mourn her departure are 9 children, Jacob and Levi of Elkhart; Samuel, David, Anna Letherman and Lovina Johnson, of Wakarusa; Soloma Locher of South Bend; Aaron and Ella Parcell, of Nappanee; Mariah Brandon of Elkhart, who when a child was taken in the home where she grew to womanhood. Forty grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Samuel Yoder of Elkhart; two sisters, Nancy Weldy and Christana Landis of Wakarusa, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Burial, which was largely attended, was at the Olive cemetery. Services conducted by David Yoder and Silas Weldy.
