HARWELL, OLIVE ELOISE REED, age 83, of Birmingham, AL, died Friday, November 26, 2004. She was born on November 8, 1921, in Camden, AL, the daughter of Carrie Knox Reed and Harold Reed, Sr. She grew up in Auburn and graduated from Auburn College on December 24, 1944. She was married to Everett O. Harwell, also a graduate of Auburn College and a member of the Auburn Tiger football team. They lived the American dream raising their two sons in Auburn surrounded by friends and football. She and her husband founded The Harwell Clothing Company in 1947. They were among the founding members of Auburn's Saugahatchee Country Club, an avid golfer and a member of the Ladies Golf Club Association and The Auburn Garden Club. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett O. Harwell, Sr., in 1970; and brother, Johnny and Harold Reed, Jr. In 1972, she moved to Birmingham to be near her children. She is survived by two beloved sons, Everett O. Harwell, Jr. (Deckie) of Jacksonville, FL, and Donald Burton Harwell (Jenni) of Birmingham, AL; 12 grandchildren, Holly H. Wheeler (Rhett), Jill-Reed H. Stewart (Shawn), Donald F. Harwell (Shannon), Everett O. Harwell, III (Erin), Natalie O. Ruge (Steven), Laura O. Greif (Nikalos), Caroline Fisher and Mackey Harwell, and Josh, Justin and Emily Bacon; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Wheeler and Jackson Harwell; uncle, J.O. Reed of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law, Agnus Reed of Memphis, TN; beloved niece, Sherry Reed Kontos and her husband, Dr. George Kontos of Memphis, TN; loving cousin, Michael Reed and wife Jenar of Birmingham; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery where she will be lain to rest with her husband and parents. The Rev. John Jeffers will be officiate. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood.
