About Eluid Nickerson, Sr.

Added by E. Nickerson- He is listed in Appendix, p. 227, Early Loyalist Saint John, The Origin of New Brunswick Politics 1783 - 1786, by D. G. Bell. He and his uncles Thomas and Joseph are indicated under Unit S, they came on the Hope, Eliud's code for family at NY is 10001, Family on Ship, blank, Family on Arrival 10000, Family May 1784, blank.

Archives of Ontario, RG 1, C-1-2, vol. 5 "Ordered that fee of survey on 250 acres granted to Elihud Nickerson of Hamilton [Township], under the Township Report and Order-in-Council of 1 September, 1797, be returned to the said Elihud Nickerson, formerly of Delan[c]ey's Corps. 22 Feb., 1808.
The above is reprinted on page 9, Cobourg -1798-1948. This is in the St. Catherine's Public Library, Special Collections Section, in the Nickerson File.
It appears that Eliud went to New Brunswick in 1783 with other U.E. Loyalists. Here several of his children, Nathaniel and John for two were born. From their he went to Cobourg on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Cobourg is in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County. The first issue of the Coburg Star was Jan 11, 1831   /ECN/
