About Emil DeRycke
Emil DeRycke 93, of rural Hartwick, died Monday evening, April 20, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn, where he had made his home since August 1985.
The son of Seraphin and Honorine Tack DeRycke, Emil was born Sept. 10, 1893 , near Hartwick, He attened the Hartwick and Victor area schools. During WWI he served in the Army. He was married to Grace Martens Jan. 21, 1920, at St Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. He was a member of St. Bridget's and a 45-year member of Harold E. Smith Post #54 American Legion, Victor.
Surviviors included his daughter and her husband, Pauline and Marvin Schinckel of Hartwick; his granddaughter and her husband, Bonnie and Robert Barker of Victor; three great greanchildren, Victoria, Brian and Janet Barker; and his brother Louis DeRycke of Victor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, Oct. 31, 1979 and seven brothers, Henry, Asiel, and Peter and four who died in infancy.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Emil DeRycke was held April 23 at St Bridget's Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene Hoenig, pastor, officiating. Music was provided by Sean Riedel, organist, and the church choir. Pallbearers were Albert Schinckel, Raymond Schinckel, John DeRycke, Donald DeRycke, Wallace Roth, and Ervin Walters. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Victor. The Rosary service was April 22 at the McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home, Victor.
Military honors were provided by members of the Harold E. Smith American Legion Post of Victor. From the Brooklyn Paper.
