Emily Mary Jane Buffett was born on 30 October 1858 at Norfolk Island. She was the daughter of David Buffett and Martha Young. She married William Walter Gregorie Quintal, son of William Quintal and Maria Christian, on 22 January 1879 at Norfolk Island. She died on 8 May 1934 at age 75.1

Emily Mary Jane Buffett usually went by her middle name of Jane. From 22 January 1879, her married name became Quintal.
