Emmanuel de Lalaing, lord of Montigny (Saint-Christophe), known as the baron de Montigny, marquis of Renty (by his wife), knight of the golden Touson in 1586, governor and grand bailli of Hainaut in 1582, admiral of the Belgian sea, general of the Walloon infantry, captain of a band of ordinance; born in Valenciennes in 1557, died in Mons on December 27, 1590, husband of Anne de CROY-Renty. He lies in the heart of the church of Condé.

During the troubles, he stood out as prince of the Malcontents, having then the situation, almost without example, of a twenty-one year old general who did not obey any of the powers that were fighting over a country given over to civil war and invasion, and who was strong enough to hold the destiny of his country in his hands. He ended up declaring himself for the cause of Spain, a resolution that was far from being disinterested. We know these children of his:

Emmanuel was born on Lalaing of 5 May 1557 from Charles de Lalaing and Marie de Montmorency , Baron de Montigny , Marquis de Renty , Seigneur de Conde, Knight of the Golden Fleece , Grand Bailiff and governor of Hainault , Admiral of Flanders (nl ) .

Biography

He was carried to the baptismal font by Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy, Governor General of Netherlands , the bishop of Utrecht , the Princess of Orange and Countess of Hornes .

In 1576: September 19, authorized to raise a banner of two hundred Walloon infantry heads under the burden of Georges de Lalaing ; in November, password Lieutenant Colonel in the regiment of the Duke of Arschot and became colonel's arrival Don John of Austria .

At that time, he lives in Mons in the entourage of Marguerite de Valois , who, on the pretext of a cure to the waters of Spa , the hand was a large crew. She spends two months in his mission. At each stage of her journey, she speaks on the occasion of lavish encounters with gentlemen and hostile to Spain, their touting his brother, tries to persuade them of their interest would have to rally around him. This victory will be observed that from 1591, following the death of Emmanuel de Lalaing, until Grand Bailiff of Hainault , under the name "Day Onslaught", now "Festin".

He died December 27, 1590, was buried in Conde in the choir of the Church of St. Wasnon. He married Anne Croy Marquise de Renty , Chièvres lady, daughter of William de Croy and Anne de Renesse .
