Ens. Samuel Asahel Newell, Jr.

   Samuel was born 19 February 1686/7 and baptized 19 Jun, 1687. On 8

   August, 1710 he married Sarah Norton, daughter of John and Ruth

   (Moore) Norton. She was born in 1689. He settled at Southington

   (South End), where his descendant, Cromwell Newell, lately (1876)

   died. He died of the dropsy, 11 February, 1751, aged 65 years and was

   buried at the North burial ground, Southington. A headstone now marks

   the place where he lies. His widow, Sarah, died 5 December, 1775 in

   her 87th year. The old homestead was taken possession of by their son

   Josiah, and has ever since remained in possession of the Newell

   family until 1872."
