About Ensign Daniel Barrett
minister and noted man.
having the use of his father's library, applied himself to the study of mathematics, and the art of surveying. He made his own instruments, and was for many years (previous to 1815, when he removed to western Virginia) the principal surveyor of Hampshire County.
He and his brother Moses were both in the Revolutionary War and served in the battle of White Plains where the bones of Moses now rest.
