77, Eppes was born in St Louis, Missouri to Sen Harry Bartow & Elizabeth Eppes Osborn (Nee' Robinson) Hawes on 11 December 1903.

Eppes father was a United States Senator and a Member of the House of Representatives, she was educated at Maryville College in Missouri & Presented to Society, First in St. Louis & then Washington D.C. & New York. As a young girl she was noted for her beauty and athletic ability, a noted high-board diver, and qualified for the Olympics.

She married five times:

Epps was plagued with ill health for years, the result of Rheumatic Fever, she underwent two open heart in 1963 & 1965. Even in her health she returned to Europe each year until 1978.
