About Erastus Curtis

Erastus Curtis (1828 - 1902), son of Uriah Curtis (1805 - 1863) and Phoebe Martin (1806 - 1905), was born 15 May 1828 at Georgetown, Brown County, Ohio; he died at the age of 73 on 20 January 1902 at Mackay, Custer County, Idaho, and was buried at Barton Flat Cemetery in Mackay. He had four wives and fathered 25 known children.

Erastus Curtis emigrated to Utah in 1852 with his father's wagon train. They reached the Great Salt Lake Valley on 29 September after a journey of three months. A California pioneer, he was the beloved son of Uriah and Phoebe Martin Curtis. He served as the Town Marshal in Moroni, Utah and was the Sherriff of Emery County, Utah. He was one of the first postal carriers in California, Utah, and Idaho. He helped build the First Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory, Utah. He was an early settler of Orangeville, Utah and San Bernardino, California.
