Erich Nielsen Knippel

Erich Knippel was Painter Boy and later free painting master. He was a student at the Art Academy, where he in 1800 got the small and in 1805 the great silver medal.

Erich Knippel lived first in Old coin no. 150, later in Printzensgade no. 37 (Current No.4) and last in Krystalgade No.56. On April 29, 1819 he fell from scaffolding at Queen TvÆ street and threw himself so violently that he died soon after at Frederiks Hospital and was interred in 1819 at the Trinity churchyard in the open ground. Probate court assessed the value of his estate to seven dollars, which is designated for Master painter Riis as partial coverage for outstanding rent.

Erich Nielsen Knippel is the great-grandfather of Master Painter, Carl Herman Knippel.
