OLSON, Erik - Wisconsin 15th Inf Co G. Residence: Coon Prairie, Bad Ax County, Wisconsin. Born 18 Jan 1829 in Øiers, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway. Came to Coon Prairie in 1852. Married on 20 May 1857 to Marie Halvorsdatter Brunsdale. Ten children. Civil War: Age 32. Married. Farmer. Gray eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5’6½”. Enlisted for three years on 6 Dec 1861 at Coon Prairie and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 9 Dec 1861. Private. On home leave at Camp Randall 28 Feb 1862, and did not return. Was listed as a deserter, but he rejoined his Company at Strawberry Plains, Virginia, 1 Apr 1864, and was sent to a hospital. A military court took away all pay and fees up to 1 Jan 1864. Transferred to Company H at Whiteside, Tennessee. Temporarily assigned to the Wisconsin 24th Infantry on 13 Feb 1865. Sick in Huntsville, Alabama, 13 Mar 1865. Transferred to WI 13th Inf Co I on 10 Jun 1865; however, he was reported sick in Madison, Wisconsin, 11 Jun 1865. Sick when mustered out. Post war: Buried in Coon Prairie, Wisconsin; stone reads “d. 19 Mar 1881, aged 52 y 1 m 1 d”.
