Ernst Waldinger

Originally from Vienna, Ernst, a poet, married the niece of Sigmund Freud. He emigrated to the United States from Austria and taught at Skidmore College.

The following description comes from the Vanderbilt University site, where his collection was donated:

Dr. Ernst Waldinger was a scholar and poet in Vienna in the early twentieth century and active in Vienna's literary and intellectual circles.

After the 1938 Anschluss, he emigrated to the United States, where he later became professor of German literature and language at Skidmore College in New York state. After his retirement in 1965, he continued to write lyric poetry in which he expressed his longing for his lost homeland.
