"Mrs. Herbert Kistner died at 12:10 a.m. New Years Day at the City Hospital of diabetes, with which she had been suffering for some time. Six weeks ago, she was taken to the City hospital and later taken home until four days before her death, when she was brought back to the hospital.

Ethel King was born in the town of Lucas. Nov 2, 1898. She was united in marriage May 1, 1920 to Herbert Kistner of the town of Weston, and has since resided there.

The deceased is survived by her husband, her father, William King of the town of Lucas, and two brothers, Himey King of Wheeler, and Hurley King of the town of Lucas, and three sisters, Mrs. Solon Wayne of Oelwein, Ia, Mrs. Art Schram of St Paul and Mrs. Sever White of the town of Lucas.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday Jan 3 at 2 pm at the home of Mrs. Hattie Harley, 1011 Broadway. Rev J M Woerth officiating. Interment was made in the Ford Cemetery in the town of Lucas."

A birth certificate for an unnamed female child born 10/5/1920 to Herbert and Ethel Kistner (who resided in the Town of Lucas at the time), is on file in the Dunn County Courthouse (Volume 19, Page 141). No death certificate or additional documents pertaining to this child has been found. The child had apparently died right away.

My mother (Jean Kistner) was always told that Ethel had died in childbirth, but the newspapers indicate differently. Perhaps she was pregnant at the time of her death and the diabetes was related to her pregnancy?
