About Eugene J. Sayler
Eugene was born in Hartline, Washington in 1913. His father, Burton, received a Homestead Grant and the family moved to Chewelah, Washington. The home was built by the family. There was a stream that ran by the home. The land was cleared for farming as that was the family business and had been since before the Civil War. Dad almost lost his life five times before he was nine years old due to illness and accidents.
When Dad was nine years old the family move to California as Burton, his father, had acquired a job as a truck driver for a lumber company. Their first home in Wilmington, CA was what was called a Tent House. There was a wood floor and two side but the rest of the house was built of Tent material. They finally had the money to buy a normal home and did so also in Wilmington.
Dad started working selling newspapers when he was ten years old and by the time he was in High School he was working in a Doctor's ofice after school and on weekends to help support his family. He graduated from High School in 1931 and went on to Compton J. C. and L. A. Tech.
