Charles Gary, b April 6, 1796 in Lebanon, CT; d Oct. 14, 1874 Switzerland Co., IN, was the son of Enos Gary & Esther Buckingham Gary; Charles accompanied his parents to their new home in Rushford, NY in 1808. Here he married, Feb 3, 1820 Eunice Spaulding, born Dec. 4, 1798 at Cavendish, VT; d Aug. 21, 1881 Switzerland Co., IN. She was the dau. of John B. All of Enos Gary's descendants lived in Rushford, except Charles, who with his family embarked on a raft at Olean, NY, went down the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers and settled at Rising Sun, Indiana. Charles and Eunice Gary's first son, Charles Ainsworth Gary, was born in Rushford, NY and moved with his family to Rising Sun, Switzerland Co., Indiana where his father died 14 Oct 1874. Charles Gary died on Oct. 4, 1874 in Switzerland, IN. Charles and Esther are both buried in Cunningham Cemetery, Switzerland, IN.

Son: Gilbert m Ann Brown
Note: John Wylie Gary’s son Hugh Timberlake Gary was granted approval for Sons of American Revolution application in 1925. The application states that his father John W. Gary was the son of Charles Gary and Eunice Spaulding Gary. I have found no birth record for a son John W. Gary or for Gilbert Gary online. (John W. Gary does have a Civil War draft registration on Ancestry.com states he is married and was born in New York state where Charles and Eunice resided.)
Note: I was able to locate a marriage certificate for Gilbert Garey and Ann Brown. Gilbert married Ann Brown Jan. 12, 1856 in Portage, OH. Also, Gilbert Garey has a Civil War draft registration in Charlestown, Portage Co., OH at age 40 in July 1, 1863. I did not find any record of Gilbert and Ann Garey in Rising Sun, Indiana where his parents moved after leaving New York state. However, in those days there were often places where courthouses resided in order to keep records of the early settlers in states that were not yet defined and I did receive information from Ohio to that effect in the case of Gilbert Gary, although he is buried in Switzerland, IN… Katie Werner Smith
