Married in March of 1901, but separated, though not legally, in 1907. C.A. refused to get a divorce for political and personal reasons (he was a congressman and he did not want to damage his relationship with his son). Evangeline and her son, Charles, traveled back and forth from California to Washington, D.C. and to Minnesota. On some of these trips, she would allow her son, then a young teenager, to do the driving. Evangeline closely followed her son's exploits through the years. She accompanied him on a barnstorming tour one summer during the 1920s. She continued to teach until 1942 and died of Parkinson's disease on September 7, 1954.
In 1930 she appears in the US Census living with her brother at 508 Lakepointe, Grosse Pointe Township, Wayne County, Michigan.
