Evans Lancaster Sr.
Evans Jerome Lancaster Sr., 60, of 415 Cantyre St., Port Wentworth, died Monday morning at his residence after a long illness.
The Effingham County native had lived here for the past 36 years and was a maintenance mechanic at Hercules Powder Company until his retirement a month ago.
He was a member of the Frank F Baker Lodge 46, F&AM of Garden City, Port Wentworth Civic Club and former deacon of the Port Wentworth First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Evelyn Rahn Lancaster, four sons, E J Lancaster Jr., Thomas A Lancaster, both of Savannah, C E(Pete) Lancaster and Lemuel A Lancaster, both of Port Wentworth; Mrs Helen Wicker of Dublin, Mrs. Thelma Bouchard, Mrs Winnie Huncke, both of Port Wentworth, Mrs. Mildred Kessler of Garden City and Mrs. Judy Triplett of Savannah; Two brothers, Harry Lancaster if Stillwell and Henry Lancaster Sr. of Savannah; three sisters; Mrs Florrie Dyches, Mrs. Mamie Kennedy both of Guyton and Mrs. B L Rahn of Rincon; 21 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm today at the Port Wentworth First Baptist Church by Rev C. Monroe Warren, pastor, and Rev J W Grooms of Statesboro, Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The body will be at the residence until one hour before funeral time, when it will be taken to the church by the Fountain Funeral Home of Port Wentworth.
Pallbearers will be John Eagan, Johnny Bailey, Clemon L Dukes, Bratt Baxley, Leroy Hamilton and Dallas Salter.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and past deacons of Port Wentworth First Baptist Church.
