Evelyn H. Gauer Evelyn H. Gauer, age 86 of Willmar died on August 31, 2014 at Bethesda Pleasant View in Willmar. Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Vinje Lutheran Church, 1101 Willmar Ave. SW, Willmar, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to Vinje Lutheran Church or the Alzheimers Association. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Evelyn was born on December 18, 1927 in rural Lonsdale, Minnesota, the daughter of Ludvig and Johanna (Stene) Fossum. The family then moved to Sunburg, and later to Willmar. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1946.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Warren Gauer on June 26, 1948 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. The couple lived and farmed near Thorpe, Minnesota until moving to Ocean Lake, Oregon, where they owned and operated a hotel from 1954 to 1959. After moving to Willmar, MN in 1959, Evelyn was employed by Thrifty White Drug from 1961 until retiring in 1994.
Evelyn was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar, where she was active with the ladies circle, quilting group, bazaar and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and quilting, but most of all, she cherished time with her family, and delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters: Diane Anderson (Chuck) of Blaine and Mary Patnode (Steve) of Eagan; five sons: Wes Gauer (Kathy) of Eden Prairie, Galen Gauer (Lynn) of Belgrade, Brian Gauer (Dawn) of Willmar, Mark Gauer (Traci) of Plymouth and Michael Gauer (Susan) of Eagan; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; parents; brothers: Burton, Leonard, Myron and Clayton Fossum; sisters: Velma Elvehjem and Elfern Hollom; and granddaughter Bryanna Gauer.
