About Ewing Rowlett

GEDCOM Note

Boone County was formed from Carroll and Madison in 1869. The two spellings of Milam are listed properly. Ewing Rowlett was a confederate private, Company G, 14th Arkansas Infantry. He deserted August, 7, 1862.
It is said that Ewing and Nancy had yet another child that died young.
Ewing and Nancy are listed in the 1860 census, Marion County, Prairie Township, with children Paula and Calvin O. The 1870 census, Boone County, Washington Township, lists children Pernella, Calvin B., Will B., Martha, and Jesse F. The 1880 census for Boone County lists Ewing as a farmer.
According to Jerry's cousin Joe Stephenson, grandson of Ewing and a first cousin on the Stephenson line, Ewing was a member of the school board in Harrison.

The following is a transcription of Ewing Rowlett's will:

I Ewing Rowlett of Boone County in the State of Arkansas, recognizing the uncertainty of human life and the certainty of death, and being of sound mind and disposing memory, to make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking any and all former will by me heretofore made or claimed to be made.
First,
It is my will that as soon after my death as the same can be conveniently done, that my executrix, hereafter to be named, shall pay all of my just debts and funeral expenses.
Second,
I will devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Joey Rowlett all of my personal estate including money, notes, accounts and personal property of all kinds, to have and to hold the same during her natural life, and at her death to be equally divided between the heirs of her body now in existence or hereafter to be born, of which I am or may be the father.
Third,
I will, devise and bequeath to my beloved children Martha Jane Hardin, Lou June Birdwell, Rosalie Farris, Culvin C. Rowlett, William B. Rowlett, ________ (probably Jesse) Rowlett, and Moses H. Rowlett and to the heirs of my beloved daughters Paralee A. Shook and Ora L. Higgenbottom, deceased the sum of one dollar and fifty cents to each of my above mentioned children, and if deceased the same amount to be divided among their respective heirs equally.
Fourth,
I will, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Joey Rowlett all of my real estate of which I have seized at the time of my death to have and hold the same during her natural life.
Fifth,
It is further my will that upon the death of my said wife Joey Rowlett that said real estate devised to my said wife Joey Rowlett, shall be equally heired by all of my said children by my said wife Zoey, they to have the rents and profits of the same after the death of my said wife Joey but to have no division of the same until after the youngest one becomes 21 years of age and the last single one married.
Sixth,
It is further my will that all of my said real estate, after the death of my said wife Joey, is to be the home of said children by my said wife Joey Rowlett so long as they remain single and to remain as the house of the single and unmarried ones with the last one (who) is married or deceased. In case of the death of _____of said children without issue, their share to go the remaining brothers or sisters or their heirs.

I do hereby nominate, constitute and appropriate my said wife Zoey Rowlett as the executrix of this my last will and testament and my will is that she be allowed to manage and control the same without bond or inventory or without being required to account to any court for the way in which she may manage the same, having full confidence in her that she will carry out the last will and testament to the best of her ability and have the desired .
Given under my hand this the 9th day of January, 1913.
