About Fülane Hatun
Fülane Hatun (Ottoman Turkish: فولاني خاتون) (born 1496 - died 1550) was the first wife of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. She was the mother of Şehzade Mahmud, who died young of smallpox, and Fatma Sultan.
Her real name is unknown; fülane was used as a compliment for women. She was born in 1496, and was Greek from Smyrna, belonging to the so-called Rum Millet.
She was Suleiman's first concubine, and entered the harem in or around 1510. Suleiman was still a Şehzade or ("Ottoman prince") and the governor of Manisa sanjak (then known as Saruhan) when she gave birth to her son Şehzade Mahmud in 1512 and her daughter Fatma in 1516. Mahmud died of smallpox in 1521 at the age of nine, and Fatma Sultan died in 1561 .
She was sent to the old palace. She died in 1550 in Edirne.
