About F. Asbury Staples
He was assistant lighthouse keeper at two Lights, Cape Elizabeth before enlisting as a member of the (Civil War) 2nd Maine Battery Light Artillery that mustered in at Augusta, Maine Nov., 20th, 1861 and mustered out of service June 16, 1865 at Augusta, Maine. Some of the service included the following battles: Cedar Mountain August 9. Battle of Groveton August 29. Bull Run August 30. Centreville September 1. Duty in the Defenses of Washington September 11-October 13. Battle of Fredericksburg December 12-15. Battle of Chancellorsville May 2-5. Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3; and Battles of the Wilderness May 5-7.
