DIZON (birth surname) - Chinese-derived surname made uniquely Filipino by ending in -zon; literally means "second grandson."
Chinese-derived surnames having only two syllables and ending in -son, -zon, and -co were first created and used in the Philippines (See reference for exception).[1]
People having the aforementioned surnames were among the first Chinese emigrants to settle in the Philippines. They arrived by the ancient maritime trade route between the Empire of China and the Kingdom Luyag na Caboloan (Pangasinan).
Archaeological evidence and early Chinese and Indian records show that the inhabitants of Luyag na Caboloan traded with China and Japan as early as the 8th to 10th century A.D.[2]
