About Fleetwood Shuttleworth

When Fleetwood Shuttleworth (born 1595) was four years old, she was married to Richard son and heir of Sir Richard Molyneux; but this union was afterwards annulled. Then in 1611 she married Richard Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe in Habergham Eaves near Burnley. Fleetwood was mistress at Gawthorpe during the Pendle witch trials in August 1612. She had her first child during 1612, and is the subject of the historical fiction book 'The Familiars' by Stacey Halls (2018). Fleetwood and Richard had eight sons and four daughters: Richard, Nicholas, Ughtred, Barton, John, Edward, William, Thomas, Anne (died in infancy), Margaret, Anne and Ellinor. Four of their sons fought in the Parliamentary army in the Civil War. Son Richard was MP for Clitheroe - Debbie McCauley (1 September 2020).
