Archer arrived on Sand Mountain in the latter part of the nineteenth century. He operated a furniture store and undertaking establishment in Albertville, before ultimately moving to Gadsden. His son, Jewell, along with his partner, Howard Stanfield, would later operate a funeral home in Albertville during the 1930's.
