ACCIDENT NO. 45--June 1st, 1905— Francesco Antoniono, timberman, working at the 63rd level, Red Jacket shaft, of Calumet and Hecla Mine, was killed by a fall of vein rock.
An inquest held by Coroner Fisher.
August Anderson testified: "I was working with the deceased at the time of the accident. We worked in the same gang. A big piece of vein rock came down, started from the hanging. I told Frank to watch out a little. We examined the ground before. We put a prop under that day. Everything looked to be safe when we went to work there."
George Bolf testified: "I worked in the same gang of timbermen as deceased and last witness. Was present at the time the accident occurred. I knew a piece of vein rock fell from the hanging to the foot. I had been standing right under it. We considered the place safe. It looked safe."
Verdict: "We, the jury, upon our oaths do say, that the said Francesco Antoniono came to his death on the first day of June, A. D. 1905, at the 63rd level, Red Jacket shaft, Calumet and Hecla Mine, by an accidental fall of vein rock."
